‘Would you care for a story?’ he mildly asks as his lips delicately purse the rim of a thin china cup from which he slurps his tea. A story “ …. meant to curdle the blood and to quicken the beatings of the heart.”

Matthew Cannonbridge is one of the most famous enigmatic and influential authors in English history, whilst mysteriously remaining elusive. We meet Cannonbridge in 1816 at the Villa Diodati in Geneva. There, it seems, he has arrived at just the right moment for the telling of tales …..

This ’tale’ is told in two time periods – the first follows Cannonbridge during the 1800s; and, the second centers on professor of literature, Doctor Toby Judd who becomes obsessed that Matthew Cannonbridge never existed, and sets about to prove it.

The prose is liquid. It changes dialect and tone depending on the time period; the writing is exceptional especially when Gothic undertones begin to emerge; and, the ending is unexpected, although being a fan of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, Edgar Allen Poe, and Charles Dickens along with Wilkie Collins ….. all of whom make an appearance – one gets the sense that something is amiss. I enjoyed this book.

The Whisper of God

"Let us be silent, so that we may hear the whisper of God" Ralph Waldo Emerson ~~~ Several years ago, I started writing down all the amazing ways God used my day to day activities, children, family, friends and nature to teach me. The more I wrote, the more I noticed God in my daily life. It became an exercise of the heart and grew my relationship with Christ in a way I had never experienced. I began to hear God whisper to my heart His desires and lessons for me. I hope that reading some of my stories will encourage you stop and listen for His whisper!
