The Books of Blood is a collection of short stories. All of them ghoulish; freakish; monstrous; creepy; scary; weird; fantastical; dark; and all reeking of foreboding fear.

The first story I gravitate toward, of course, is The Midnight Meat Train. It is the second telling in the first volume, and one I‘ve heard most about. I’m already getting anxious …….. something on the subway night train is using it as a meat locker – for humans. Well, even monsters have to eat, don’t they?; Jacqueline Ess: Her Will and Testament  Yes, this is better. Not so bloody. After a failed attempt to end her own life, Jacqueline Ess discovers a new ability: she can maim and kill with her mind; The Yattering and Jack (this one’s bizarre) A painter bedeviled by a cut-rate demon known as a ‘yattering’.

What makes Barker so good at what he does, is the superfluous manner in which his medium flows. Not only does he use the correct colors for his paintings, he uses them for his words as well. He seems to know the exact order of every supernatural-horror then uses it in such a way so as to punish the rest of us for not having snatched-up the magic for our very own.

There are numerous short stories within the bloody pages of this book.  Books of Blood is gory. I’m not sure if I’ll be able to finish all these nightmares – but I will be, at least, visiting each of them for a salivating taste.

The Whisper of God

"Let us be silent, so that we may hear the whisper of God" Ralph Waldo Emerson ~~~ Several years ago, I started writing down all the amazing ways God used my day to day activities, children, family, friends and nature to teach me. The more I wrote, the more I noticed God in my daily life. It became an exercise of the heart and grew my relationship with Christ in a way I had never experienced. I began to hear God whisper to my heart His desires and lessons for me. I hope that reading some of my stories will encourage you stop and listen for His whisper!
